Turtle
Turtles appeared in many variations during the fur trade and seem to have been quite popular. Raised (hammered) up from flat sheet stock these are hollow backed
2-inch $85, 2 ½-inch $90, 3-inch $95
Other sizes can be made.
Beaver
My beaver pendants are very close to the outline of the large beaver that was formerly in the Roy "Pa" Keeler collection. The 3rd picture shows the original (left) and my uncle's version of it (right). The last picture shows the unknown maker's marks on the underside of the original. I do not add flat backs to my pieces since the process is difficult, time consuming, and very costly.
2-inch $85, 2 ½-inch $90
Intertwined Snakes
Pictured & documented in North American Indian Trade Silver, by W. H. Carter. These were originally made by P. Fox, who is listed in that book to have been working from 1787-1790 in Kingston, Ontario. We don't know his first name. While this intertwined pair was originally produced as a pendant, it could be easily modified to be attached like a brooch.
More information about the other two shown in the 3rd picture can be found on the Brooches page.
2-inch $65, 2 ½-inch $70
Kissing Otters
The outline for this piece was taken from an original pendant that measured 5 ½ by 4 ¼ inches.
Can also be configured as a brooch or pin.
I usually make these 2 ½ inches tall. $90
Frog
I first made one of these as a Christmas present for my daughter. A few months later I was surprised to find that a family friend owned and original frog that he purchased from the Roy "Pa" Keeler collection. I don't know of any other frogs in the fur trade record, and I still hope to figure out who's B mark that is in the last picture.
Approximately 1 ¾-inch tall. $90
